Mr. S.M. Sharma, IPS (Retired), former DGP of Punjab and Vice-President of Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) in this capacity he takes keen interest in the development of tennis among youngsters in Chandigarh as well. He retired as DGP from Punjab Police and then worked as Commissioner in the Punjab Right to Service Commission for five years till November 2016. Post retirement S M Sharma has honed his tennis skills further and is currently top ranked in his age group, in the country. He is credited with the development of tennis in Punjab Police, who retained its supremacy in the All India Police Tennis Championships for over a decade, till his retirement.

Performance:

  • He struck a double gold, each in the events of tennis Men Singles (70+) and Men Doubles (60+) in Winnipeg, Canada, where World Police and Fire Games,WPFG-23, August, 2023.
  • He win Gold Medal in Singles in the last three WP&FG, first in Chengdu China in 2019, second in Rotterdam Netherlands in 2022 and third this time in Winnipeg Canada. WP&FG are conducted once in two years.
  • He has also been selected to the National Team of Superseniors (70+) to represent India in the World Superseniors Tennis Team Championship which will be held in Mallorca, Spain in October 2023.
  • He outclassed all his opponents with ease to bag the Singles title at ITF World Tennis Masters Tour (MT- 400) organised at Joygaon, Jhajjar, Haryana, India, March, 2023.
  • He had won both the Singles and Doubles championships in the 70+ category In ITF MT-400 tournament held in Indore, in September 2022.
  • He has been Captain of the National Super-Seniors Tennis team in 2021.
  • He won both, the Singles as well as Doubles, in 70+ category of the MT400 tennis tournament of International Tennis Federation (ITF) held from October, 2022 at Indore Tennis Centre.
  • He had won two gold medals in the World Police & Fire Games 2022, held in Rotterdam, Netherlands in July, 2022.
  • He has won the doubles event in MT-400 Pattaya LDR Group Cup Tennis Tournament held at Greta, Pattaya, Thailand in September, 2022.
  • All India Tennis Association (AITA) has announced S M Sharma as Captain of Indian Super-Seniors (65+) tennis team that will represent India in the World Championship-2021 being organised by International Tennis Federation (ITF) in Mallorca, Spain, October, 2021.
  • He was a Gold medalist in the World Police Games-2019, held in Chengdu, China. He was a member of the Super-Seniors Team in 2019 as well that participated in world championship in Croatia.
  • In the Bhilai ITF Seniors Grade-3 Tennis Championship 2019 Tournament organized by International Tennis Federation (ITF) at Bhilai (Chhattisgarh) in December, 2019. He won both the Singles and Doubles titles in 60+ age category.
  • As per raking released by International Tennis Federation (ITF) on 01.07.2019) in the World 65+ category he was number one in India.
